Character Backstory
Meet Gor, a
heavy-set and quiet-spoken Soridan on the planet Sorid who enjoys the simpler
things of life such as watching TV, eating, and driving his fully-powered Diex
7000 around for casual and calm joy rides.
In his past, he was abandoned by his parents and left to fend for
himself as no one would adopt him. He
had to learn how to survive on his own when growing up and witnessed many happy
families from afar. He longed to be a
part of a family and had made strives to fit in, but was constantly rejected
due to his quick temper. One time, he
was adopted by a seemingly loving family, but his adopted brothers would
destroy his stuff causing him to lash out in anguish and set their favorite pet
on fire. This instantly got him booted
from the family and he was alone again, but with a hideous reputation of being
short-tempered and unpredictable. He
soon became accustomed with a life of solitude and kept a rather gruff exterior
up to keep others away. Living out his
calm days on Sorid, Gor prefers solitude and tranquility making him a recluse
to most of society. He has only one
thing in his life that he truly loves; his pet Sli, a creature that looks to be
a cat with slug like ears and tail and a gelatinous body that sloshes when it
walks. Aside from living a quiet life,
Gor has a civic duty to survey incoming aliens from other planets at Sorid’s
Welcoming Chamber. It is his job to
analyze those who are worthy of entry into Sorid and those who are not and to
physically remove any alien that is not welcomed onto the planet. Gor’s dead-pan personality, along with his
enormous size makes him come across as intimidating to others. His life changes, however, when he is greeted
by Bland, the most obnoxious and irritating alien ever to set foot on Sorid’s
soil. Bland is classified as a human
being and instantly turns Gor’s peaceful world upside down.

The Storm
The snow continues
to fall around the car as the three of them sit in a moment of silence. Gor and Bland are in the front seats with
Rapzi, the one who kidnapped them, sitting in the back. Bland begins tinkering with the glove
compartment in a rather silly and child-like manner. Gor grips the steering wheel, the tendons on
his neck swelling. His mouth curves into
an angry grimace slowly but surely. His
three eyes furrow and he exhales deeply through clenched teeth. Rapzi looks at his two friends nervously,
unsure of what will happen next. Bland
turns to Gor, holding a small animal cookie.
“Hey Daddy look what I found! Isn’t
it awesome?” Bland beams intensely. Gor growls lowly. “I told you before...” he speaks slowly, “...and I’ll tell you again...stop referring
to me as ‘Daddy.’” Gor clenches the wheel
tighter. His shoulder arc upwards,
revealing his growing irritation. Bland
happily eats the cookie. “Fine, I won’t
call you ‘Daddy’ Daddy.” Gor winches and
stares out at the falling snow. His grimace
changes to a more pensive look and he turns to Bland. Bland looks back at him, wide-eyed with a
small O-shaped mouth. His look of
intrigue quickly changes to a big smile.
Gor frowns at his adopted son’s goofy nature. “Knock that silly-smile crap off and answer
me this...Do you still have that gizmo I gave you?” Bland presents another curious look and
blinks several times, a smile re-growing across his face. “You mean the toy?” he asks happily. Gor grunts and responds, “Yes, the ‘toy’.” His eyes glare down as Bland reaches into his
pocket. He fumbles around a bit and
retrieves the ‘toy.’ “Oh...oops. Haha, looks like it brokeded when I sat on
it,” Bland says cheerily, handing it over to Gor. Gor looks at the broken ‘toy’ for several
moments with a dismal look and then focuses on Bland. He sighs and takes the ‘toy’ from him and
begins taking it apart. “Hey hey
hey! Daddy, what are you doing?” Bland crawls up behind Gor and stares down
woefully at the ‘toy’s’ destruction. Gor stops what he is doing and quietly says, “Get...off...my...back...” Bland retracts to his seat and holds his
legs, bobbing anxiously back and forth as he watches Gor return to stripping
the ‘toy’ apart. From the backseat,
Rapzi continues to observe the two in silence, fearing that anything he says
will result in a harsh scolding from Gor.
Gor finishes stripping the ‘toy’ and proceeds to step out of the
vehicle. Bland watches his every movement
like a curious child. He leaps out of
the car when Gor opens the hood. “Wait
Daddy, let me see let me see!” he exclaims.
Gor sighs and gestures for Bland to keep his distance. He uses the two wires from the ‘toy’ and sets
one wire on the negative bolt of the battery and the other on the
positive. He looks to Bland. “You, ask Rapzi if he would turn the engine
over.” Bland guffaws at this
statement. “You want the engine turned
over? Here, I can do it. No need to include Rapzi.” He rushes to the car’s engine and grapples it
with his hands. He tries hoisting it up,
but to no avail. He hugs the engine and
tries again, still failing at yanking it out of the car. Gor watches the stupidity of his adopted son
and closes his eyes in frustration. “Would
you kindly step back and do as I instructed you to do?” Gor glares furiously at Bland. Bland whimpers and withdraws like a
frightened puppy, his arms tucked back to his chest. Gor points to the car as a means to get Bland
to follow his prior instructions. Bland
slinks to the passenger door at first, but then breaks out into a happy
strut. He opens the door and gets
inside. Gor waits for Rapzi to turn the
engine over. Several moments pass with
nothing happening. Gor looks to see
Rapzi still sitting in the back seat with Bland playing with his seat
belt. Angrily, Gor stomps over to the
driver door and looks in the car. “Rapzi,
since Bland is obviously incapable of following simple orders, would you mind
taking turning the car over while I connect the ‘toy’ battery to the car’s
starter motor?” Rapzi nods and climbs
into the driver’s seat. Gor returns to
the battery and holds one of the wires in his right hand while his other hand
is placed on the battery. “Now don’t
turn it on until I—” Gor is interrupted
by a violent surge of electrical shock.
He makes several grunting noises of pain and finally stands, charred and
smoking. The car engine starts. “Hey, it’s working Gor,” Rapzi calls from the
car. Gor remains in his stupor for
several seconds. Bland comes out to
him. “Whoa, Daddy, you smell
horrid. What did you do to yourself?” Gor turns to him. “What did I do to myself, you ask? I have befriended an idiot and adopted a
moron. That’s what I did to myself...” He coughs and stumbles forward, collapsing
unconscious in the snow, steam sizzling upwards from his smoldering body.
